Fustic House

Fustic house is a stunning example of Provence-style architecture dating back to 1740.  Set on a ridge above the quiet and tame Caribbean coastline, you have the benefit of cooling trade winds and located mere steps from the water.  The property was redesigned in the late 1970s by Oliver Messel, and it retains his theatrical influences to this day.

Sublime views out over the Caribbean and west coast are offered from the 11 acres of landscaped gardens.  Privacy is assured here and you even have Messel’s famous lagoon style swimming pool from which to enjoy your own tropical paradise.  A large decking area extends out over the cliff edge, and there is even a lotus lake, Arawak cave system and Mahogany park to enjoy.

The gardens were designed by Todd Longstaffe-Gowan and are a haven of beauty that will rejuvenate the senses, while the cuisine is simply exemplary and prepared by the house’s private chef – it is regarded by many as the best on the island.  All these touches and parts combine to make Fustic House one of the greatest properties on the island.

Guests at Fustic House all have exclusive access and use of the Port St Charles Yacht Club, with its members-only restaurant, bar, pool and beach.  You can also wander up the beach to the famed Fish Pot restaurant at Little Good Harbour, where you also have use of its facilities.  For the really adventurous there is also the use of two zippa speedboats included (driver and fuel charged at cost).

Water and land sports can be arranged on request, including cycling, tennis, golf, sailing, tours, excursions and day trips.  Simply contact the property manager who will gladly arrange this for you.

Bedrooms

The 7 luxury suites are spread between four separate wings:  There are two in the Great house, two in the Plantation Wing, two in the Messel Wing and one in the Pavilion.  All rooms feature air conditioning, custom-made Indian linen, Bose sound systems and either super king size or double queen size beds (apart from the Messel Wing rooms which have two twin beds).

Five of the bedrooms feature their own dedicated en-suite facilities, while the other two are adjacent to bathrooms.  The two Plantation Wing suites and the Pavilion Suite even boast private outdoor showers.

Communal Areas

The signature part of the grounds is the world famous Oliver Messel swimming pool.  Free-formed and lagoon style, carved from coral stone and surrounded by a large decking area out over the tropical ravine, from which the quiet beach is a few minutes walk away.

Designed with a blend of indoor and outdoor living, with a large terrace and multiple sitting/dining areas to give ample locations and opportunities for entertainment.  There is a games room in the Plantation Wing, and a number of games and equipment that makes the property great for children.

There is also a small gym offering weights and yoga/pilates, and a 60” HD TV graces the living area creating an involving home theatre system.

Staff

The dedicated and highly-trained staff at Fustic House will do their best to ensure your stay here is a memorable one.  Supervised by the Property Manager, the 14-strong team includes your own private chef, butler, estate manager, house manager and 3 housekeepers, 3 gardeners, a sous chef and 3 security guards offering 24 hour coverage.

Please note that our housekeepers are not trained nannies and should not be expected to look after and/or babysit infants and children. If you do make babysitting arrangements with the staff, please be advised this is at your own risk.

The levy on accommodation, collected in resort, will cost between US$2.50 (£1.90) and $17.50 (£14.50 for 5* Hotels) per room per night until VAT doubles to 15% in 2020 as set by Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley.
